Lowell Street Apartments

In 1844 the Amoskeag Manufacturing Company sold land on Lowell Street to Harvey Tufts. Tufts, a stove merchant with a store on Elm Street, built his home on this site in 1846. The house was shortly sold to another Manchester merchant and for the next 20 years went through additional ownership changes as well as renovations and additions to the structure.

In the summer of 2010, Families in Transition purchased 2 six unit apartment buildings at the corner of Valley and Belmont Street. Historic maps indicate that the building along Belmont Street was constructed between 1892 to 1896. The building along Valley Street was constructed a few years after the turn of the century.

in Transition purchased the property. Families in Transition in partnership with Great Bridge Properties
undertook the renovations of the church and new construction of a 29 unit residential affordable housing complex

  Family Mill Apartments

In 1891 George Crafts and his partner C. E. Green constructed a brick shoe factory on the banks of the Piscataquog River in Manchester, NH. By 1893 the Crafts and Green Shoe Company employed 300 people and turned out 400,000 pairs of shoes per year. With the decline of the shoe industry in the mid 1900s, the building was used for aluminum products manufacturing and then by Mailways of New England, a bulk services mail company which operated in the mill from 1963 until 2004. Today, the mill is home to 33 families and houses the retail store Family Outfitters, operated by Families in Transition.

In 2003 Great Bridge Properties collaborated with Families in Transition, a non-profit agency that provides housing and services to women and children at risk of becoming homeless, to develop much needed transitional and permanent housing to residents of Concord, NH. Some of the units were set-aside for applicants who were homeless and had disabilities.
